The Best of Our Winter Travel Content

Every year, when the weather starts to turn chilly in our corner of the world, we find that the content we produce for clients at World Words begins to take on a distinctly seasonal slant. All of a sudden, the travel content agenda is dominated by all things wintery, from celebrations like Christmas and New Year, to activities like winter sports.

Our winter travel content is for everyone to enjoy. Disappointed you’re not cosied up in a chalet by a roaring log fire? Read about our Alpine adventures in St. Moritz and pretend you are. Rather be flying down mountain slopes on skis? Read our expert blog about winter sports spots in Lake Como. Want to turn the clock back a few days to imagine yourself at the height of the festivities? Read our rundown of seasonal activities in South East England.

Our winter content isn’t all about mince pies and snow either; we’ve also written about Ryanair’s latest winter sun destination, Eilat (for those who want to escape the bleak weather) and London’s best cultural events (for those fed up of staying indoors). We’ve selected five of our finest winter pieces, so scroll down to read a little of each.

Our Travels: Southwest Iceland

First, we took you to the remote chilly outcrop of Isle of Harris, Scotland. Then we experienced the Mediterranean charms of Corsica, France. Next, cultural Quebec, Canada and fun Dubai, UAE. Now, for our fifth and final (in 2016) Our Travels blog, we are heading back to Europe to the far northern hotspot of Reykjavik and Southwest Iceland.

Our editor-in-chief Joe recently visited Iceland on long weekend break, staying in the small town of Hafnarfjordur, just outside Reykjavik, and exploring the southwestern corner of the island. Scroll on down to read his thoughts…

The Black Forest to Southern Chile: Even More New Destination Guides for Expedia

A couple of weeks ago, on this very blog, we revealed that we’d had brand new destination guides published by Expedia. What’s more, we gave you previews of three of these published pieces: Southwest Washington, Western Nicaragua and the Isle of Skye. The truth is, we’ve been writing literally hundreds of new guides for Expedia over the last few months, so on reflection, we feel we shortchanged you. Therefore, we’ve decided to add a few more.

Take a look below and you will find three more brand new Expedia destination guides written by the World Words team. The geographical spread of these is just as stark as our previous selection, taking us everywhere from the heart of Germany’s Black Forest in Europe to the south of Chile in Central America. So scroll down to take a look.

How to Craft the Perfect Travel Pitch

In our last travel writing advice post, we looked at ways to find fresh angles and original travel content ideas. But finding a good idea is only the beginning – once you’ve done that, you still need to market that idea. It’s time to write up that all-important travel pitch. For many aspiring travel writers, this is the most difficult part of the process.

While hopeful writers busy themselves wrangling their own thoughts, ideas and experiences into a saleable travel story, commissioners have to sift through what must seem like a never-ending influx of proposals. They too face difficult choices, having to discern what – if anything – will work for their readership and whether the freelancer will be able to deliver the job to their standards. To help both the commissioner and the commissionee through the arduous pitching process, we’ve collated six important questions – ones that writers should ask themselves before they press send, and ones editors can use to identify a winning pitch. Simply scroll down to read them all.
