If You Like… A Blog Series for HomeAway

At World Words, we love writing travel blog content. And not just our own – for other companies too! So when we were contacted by the lovely people at HomeAway earlier this year to write a series of blogs, we were delighted.

We had previously written a selection of travel guides for the holiday rental company, but now they wanted us to develop something a bit different: three long-form blogs that would promote some of their more – in their eyes – underrated Asian destinations. They found that their customers regularly booked three big destinations – Tokyo, Singapore and Bali – but were less likely to book other equally-appealing cities such as Kuala Lumpur and Seoul.

So it was our job to promote those lesser-visited cities. The idea? A series of ‘If You Like…’ blogs, comparing the top destinations to some less popular ones. We wrote three blog pieces in total, and you can read them below…

Our Travels: Cornwall, England

All of us at World Words are lucky enough to count ourselves as very well-travelled. It’s our greatest passion, and our wanderlust is at the heart of everything we do – and everything we write. Between us, we’ve crisscrossed the globe, venturing to incredible destinations and far-flung hidden treasures whose names are difficult to pronounce.

Naturally, then, the Our Travels blog series is something dear to our hearts, as it allows us tell our personal travel stories. Regular readers of this blog will already have heard our tales from such varied places as Belarus, Oman and Japan. Yet sometimes we venture only a couple of hours from home, to explore what’s right on our doorstep.

In this month’s blog, staff content writer Samantha Wilson recounts a long weekend with her family near Fowey in the heart of Cornwall. That’s in the south west of England, for the uninitiated. Scroll down to read all about her trip.

How to Turn a Trip into Travel Content

If you need to create great travel content at the drop of a hat, it’s helpful to have built up a good store of ideas to draw on. And you’ll find that your own travels can be great starting point for a whole range of content ideas. The fact is, the concepts that make the most compelling pieces are often the ones that draw on your own experience.

Even if the holiday you’re about to go on might not seem like it’s going to be worth writing about, you just can’t know until you’ve been. That upcoming camping weekend in Wales could end up providing the source material for an irresistible pitch, a dazzling post for your company blog or even an award-winning travel feature (aim high!)

All too often, however, the key details that can make the difference between good and great travel writing end up lost in transit. That’s why it’s so important to gather everything you may need for your content during the trip itself.

Whether it’s you or a colleague that’s going away, follow our tips to turn the travel experiences into killer content…
