Our Travels… During a Global Pandemic

The last two years have not been easy for travellers like us. The emergence of COVID-19 in late 2019 – or, for the majority of us outside Wuhan, in early 2020 – followed by a seemingly endless number of variants, have led to an endless stream of rescheduled flights and cancelled hotels. Yet for all these challenges, the intrepid team at World Words still found some ways to get out and explore, whether it was by seeing the sights closer to home, by taking advantage of brief travel windows, or even by basing themselves in a new location before restrictions took hold.

We wrote about some of our adventures during the last two pandemic-hit years for the Our Travels section of our blog. Now, to mark the beginning of a brand new year (and in the hope of a less restricted 2022) we’ve collated five of our favourite blog posts here. You can scroll down to read extracts or follow the links to read the full posts…

Our Travels: Isle of Wight, England

Here at World Words, we are not simply sitting behind our laptops, crafting inspiring and evocative travel writing. We are out in the field, doing what we love best and digging deep to discover new, fascinating destinations and quirky angles on well-loved places. With our team members always visiting somewhere interesting, we have put together the Our Travels blog series, so they can share all their latest and greatest travel tales and experiences.

We have already covered a range of interesting destinations around the globe, from Quebec City and Corsica to Southwest Iceland and Dubai. This month, we’re keeping things a little closer to home (or, at least, our UK home), as content writer Samantha Wilson sets off on a family escape to the Isle of Wight. Scroll down to find out more…

Explore Enchanting Norfolk: An English County Travel Guide for Oliver’s Travels

It all started with Ibiza. Back in October 2015, we penned a travel guide on the popular Balearic Island for Oliver’s Travels, a British company that specialises in unique, luxurious holiday villas across Europe. They were so happy with our work that they commissioned a dozen more, from the Algarve in Portugal to the entirety of Scotland. You may have seen this previous blog on Aquitaine in Southern France; another destination we wrote about for them.

Oliver’s Travels have been so content with our content, they’ve recently commissioned us to write another batch of destinations for them. You’ll see them appear on Oliver’s Travels shortly. But in the meantime, we thought we’d share another of our favourite travel guides with you: Norfolk. This pretty corner of England was just a joy to write about, and you can read the whole guide here. Or scroll down to read a small extract about this charming county.

Discovery Blog: Top 10 Activities in South East England This Christmas

It’s that time of year again; when the wrapping paper comes out of the drawer, the mince pies are bought in bulk and everyone starts getting a little sick of the John Lewis advert. But Christmas should be about more than gift-related chores, unavoidable shopping and depressed penguins. This is a time to have fun with friends and family.

That’s why, when approached by holiday rental company Discovery Holiday Homes to create a series of monthly blogs for their website, we decided to start by looking at the brilliant activities available during the festive season.

So here it is – our first ever blog for Discovery Holiday Homes, focusing on fun things to do around Christmas in South East England. It’s entitled, rather imaginatively, ‘Top 10 Festive Activities in the South East this Christmas’…
