Our globetrotting travel writers and editors are pretty much constantly on the move, scouring interesting destinations near and far, both for research and for pure pleasure. In this knowledge that our intrepid team members are always on the go, we’ve created an Our Travels blog series, allowing them to share their latest travel-related tales and experiences.

Five-Star Content for a Five-Star Resort – Our Hotel Web Copy for Vila Vita Parc

As travel writers, we have stayed in more than our fair share of hotels. And we are no strangers to writing about them either, whether that be a magazine feature about the experience of staying in a luxury hotel, a blog about vineyard resorts, a press release announcing the launch of a new boutique hotel or even an industry-focused advice piece on creating and maintaining hotel blogs.

Most recently, we were tasked with creating engaging and informative website copy for Vila Vita Parc, a luxury five-star resort in the Algarve, Portugal. Having recently redone their website, Vila Vita Parc were keen to refresh their content, so we got to work ensuring the words on their site did this beautiful beach resort justice. In total, World Words re-worked more than 5,000 words across the Vila Vita Parc website. To give you a taster, we have included just a few short extracts from the final draft below…

Cultural Sensitivity and Travel Content

After returning from a trip, travellers are usually consumed by an overwhelming desire to tell everyone about the amazing experience they have had. This is what a travel writer is paid to do in the most eloquent way possible. However, it can also be the hardest part to master when it comes to depicting and representing other cultures.

Cultural sensitivity should be paramount when writing travel content, but it is often sorely overlooked. Mariellen Ward of the Breathedreamgo travel blog has discussed the dangers of cultural imperialism (or the belief that your way of life is better) in travel writing, while photographer Bani Amor has criticised colonialism in travel literature.

When writing about location, ethnicity and society, there are certain to be complicated politics that come into play. Although there’s no one-size-fits-all phrasebook to help travel writers avoid all controversy in their content, there are helpful tricks for traversing this complicated terrain.
