The expert travel writing agency World Words is looking for a highly skilled and friendly travel writer to join our expanding global writing team. You will be working in-house with the editor-in-chief in Edinburgh, as well as remotely with an editorial team around the world, to produce high-quality content to meet our exacting standards, plus the individual requirements of each client.

This position is an ideal fit for an enthusiastic copywriter and/or journalist looking to develop their skills and build their portfolio. Please note: This is a part-time position on a freelance contract.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing high-quality travel copy to varying briefs for a wide variety of clients.
  • Contributing original content to the World Words blog and social media channels.
  • Sourcing multimedia to supplement content and uploading content to clients’ CMS.
  • Proofreading and editing content delivered by other writers.
  • Undertaking administration such as job briefing, applications and website management.
  • Contributing to marketing and promotional efforts on behalf of World Words.


  • Requirements:

  • Have a real love for writing and a pre-existing portfolio (ideally including some travel writing).
  • Show a genuine passion for travel and culture and have extensive personal travel experience (there are extra points for experience living abroad and/or knowledge of a second language!)
  • Be creative, innovative and original, but also able to deliver to a strict brief and deadline.
  • (Ideally) Display a knowledge of the technical arenas of social media, search, CMS and HTML.
  • Understand the distinctions between UK English and US English, and be able to write in both.


  • Terms:

  • This position involves 20 to 25 hours per week, with overtime as and when required.
  • You will be based in an office in central Edinburgh, Scotland.
  • Candidates must be available to work from March 2015 for an initial six months. There is a good chance this will be extended later.
  • This is a freelance contract, though for a suitable candidate employment may be considered. Rates will be competitive and to be discussed.
  • A detailed timesheet must be submitted at the end of each month showing work completed.
