At World Words, we love a good British pub. For our travel writers and editors, there’s little better than supping on a craft pale ale or continental lager in a place steeped in history, legend and tradition. So when we were asked to produce new brand web copy for Greene King, the largest pub retailer and brewer in the UK, we couldn’t say no. Our task? To create enticing and informing content about the functions rooms in their pubs all around the country, highlighting the range of events they offer, from weddings to Christenings, dinner parties to live sport screenings.<\/p>\n

Over the course of the next few months, we completed copy for more than 35 pubs on The Function Room, each at just over 500 words. And they were so happy with our work, we’re expecting another commission very shortly.<\/p>\n

THE MARLBOROUGH ARMS, Bloomsbury, London<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our pub is named in honour of Charles Spencer, the 3rd Duke of Marlborough. The duke was a prominent 18th century figure, acclaimed for his military service during the Seven Years\u2019 War. He also led the British Army in the pivotal 1758 \u2018Raid on Saint-Malo\u2019. Naturally, such exploits did not go unrecorded and you\u2019ll see several large portraits of the heroic nobleman hanging in The Marlborough Arms.<\/p>\n

Situated close to the University of London, our pub has long been a setting for much lively discussion and debate. We even became something of a left-wing icon during the 1960s and 70s; a factor which no doubt played a part in Iain Duncan-Smith\u2019s decision to meet with students here in 2003 to talk about tuition fees. Today, The Marlborough Arms remains one of the area\u2019s favourite student locals, popular with academics and a haven for shoppers and visitors to fascinating Bloomsbury.<\/p>\n

From the graceful, arched windows and aged wooden floors to the solid elegance of our traditional bar, The Marlborough Arms\u2019 design reflects the heritage of its locale. Cosy nooks invite private conversation. Thoughtfully arranged TV screens give live sport fans their own sense of privacy. And, in warmer weather, outdoor seating allows guests to enjoy bustling Bloomsbury from a peaceful vantage point.<\/p>\n

AN ELEGANT FUNCTION ROOM WITH EGALITARIAN APPEAL<\/strong>
\nOur spacious ground floor function room is discreetly separate from The Marlborough Arms\u2019 lively bar. Decorated in muted colours and boasting high ceilings, wood panelled walls and fine original features, it is an elegant setting for formal dinners or business meetings. But it also has the intimacy and charm of a private club which works beautifully for family gatherings, small weddings and parties.<\/p>\n

Arranged for dining, our function room can seat 40 guests comfortably. On less formal occasions, the room is large and comfortable with three big TV screens, ideal for watching live sport with friends. Whatever the occasion we look forward to welcoming your function to the Marlborough Arms.<\/p>\n

AN INTERESTING PUB IN THE BEST BLOOMSBURY TRADITION<\/strong>
\nThe Marlborough Arms is on the edge of Bloomsbury, right between busy Tottenham Court Road and the University of London. It\u2019s a lively pub popular with students and working adults alike, with a fine sense of heritage, surrounded by shopping streets, important museums, venerable institutions and remarkable architecture. The Charles Dickens Museum is just a short walk from our pub and The British Museum is even closer. Nearby Bedford Square is home to the world famous Bloomsbury Publishing house, while legendary London furniture store, Heal\u2019s, is two minutes from our door. It\u2019s easy to reach us too, with Euston, St. Pancras and Kings Cross stations are all within easy walking distance. So be our guest and have a drink in The Marlborough Arms, where Bloomsbury\u2019s best traditions will always be alive and well.<\/p>\n
