Our Travels: Madeira

As regular readers of our blog will know, the expert travel writers and editors at World Words like to get around. Nothing makes us happier than strapping on a backpack and heading out there to discover a new place, meet new people and gain new perspectives. Nothing, that is, except for writing about the experience for our clients!

The Our Travels blog series is the place where we can share some of our most recent trips directly. In the past, we have covered our most exciting discoveries in all four corners of the world, from the cute brown bear cubs of Alaska to the majestic vultures of India, the Mayan pyramids of Guatemala to the mountaintop temples of Japan.

This month, our editor-in-chief Joe takes us to a distant corner of Europe that is capturing the hearts of more and more people: Madeira. After visiting the Portuguese archipelago in early February, Joe picks his island highlights…

Our Travels: Venice, Italy

You may have noticed that the team at World Words has a bit of a soft spot for travel. Okay, let’s face it – it’s more than a soft spot. We’re in love. At any given time, you’ll find at least one of us on the move, discovering an exciting corner of the world. Sometimes it’s for work, but sometimes it’s simply to quench our own thirsts for exploration.

We love to share our travel experiences with friends, family and strangers alike, and the Our Travels blog series lets us do just that. We’ve written about adventures everywhere from Japan to Belarus to Guatemala. This month, staff content editor Eilidh McCabe looks at the highlights of her recent Italian trip to Venice. Read more below…

Eilidh enjoys a bench on Torcello island, Venice – a “gorgeous, leafy little place”.

Our Travels: Southwest Belarus

We are an extremely well-travelled bunch here at World Words. Between us, we’ve been to literally hundreds of countries in all four corners of the world (personally, I’ve been to more than 80). Of course, much of this is in the name of work, allowing us to provide comprehensive destination expertise for our clients. But some of it is simply for the pure joy of travel. After all, we all chose to be travel writers because, first and foremost, we love to travel.

This Our Travels blog series allows us to share our passion for overseas adventures directly with you. So far, we have recounted our tales from a whole host of destinations right around the world, from Quebec City to Northern Oman, Isla Canela to Alaska. And this month, we are venturing deep into previously undiscovered territory, with one of the least-visited countries in Europe (for now). So join our editor-in-chief Joe on his trip through Belarus…

A Dream Amid Sea and Sky – Our Web Copy for Hotel Villa Franca in Positano, Italy

“Perfectly situated on a hill between the craggy cliff tops and the glinting Mediterranean Sea, Hotel Villa Franca is romantic Italy at its most ravishing. With the picturesque cobbled piazzas of Positano and two blissful beaches just steps away, this stylish hilltop retreat offers the chance to check out from reality and absorb the glamor and gorgeousness of the ever-enchanting Amalfi Coast. A cool calm envelops this Italian idyll where bewitching coastal beauty dominates the window views and pines and citrus scent the air.”

So begins our web content for Hotel Villa Franca, a hotel in Positano, Italy. HVF approached us earlier this year to completely re-work their website, making the content throughout inspiring and informative. So we did. We rewrote all of the copy on the website (a total of around 5,000 words, all in US English) and then had our words translated into Italian, French and Spanish by our translation contacts. The paragraph above is the very first thing that visitors read on the homepage, but it’s just the start. We have included several content snippets from the website below…
